You Are Not Alone

Every single time I start working with a new patient, I hear “I feel like I’m alone,” or “I must be the only person who deals with this.”

I want you to know that you are NOT alone. Literally millions of women (and men and children) deal with incontinence and pelvic pain.

This may not be the first thing they tell you when they meet them…”Hi, my name is Sara, and I pee my pants when I sneeze..” Or, “Hi, I’m Jane. I’m worried my marriage is going to break up because intercourse hurts me and I don’t want to participate anymore.” (These are fictitious names)

But I hear all of these personal stories.

Every day.

Your neighbor, your child’s teacher, the person behind you in the check out line may be suffering in silence with these issues but is too embarrassed to talk about it, maybe even too embarrassed to tell their doctor. But we shouldn’t be too embarrassed to get help, or to talk about the issues we have personally dealt with. Because when we talk about our issues we can help those people who are too afraid to talk about it.

The point of this post is please don’t feel like you are the only person who has these issues- or that you are too young to have these issues. Pelvic floor dysfunction can be as common as heart disease. But it is much easier to treat.
